Scholarships and Grants to Help You Acquire a Degree
Explore the Nevada State Treasurer's Office, the Nevada State College system and the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education for Nevada state-funded scholarships and grants.
General Scholarships and Grants
One of the most popular scholarships is the Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship program - not to be confused with the Gates Millennium Scholarship. This scholarship program is administered through the Nevada State Treasurer's Office and recognizes those high school seniors with exceptional academic standing. Eligible candidates will be planning a four-year degree program and already have a major in mind. In most cases the scholarship covers most of the tuition costs. This program was developed to primarily challenge Nevada students to pursue a competitive high school program that prepares them for the rigors of a college education.
The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education administers the Western Undergraduate Exchange Program that makes the exchange habits of students within the western states less financially burdensome than those classified as "non-residents." Nevada students who plan on studying in a western state will qualify for tuition fees only 50% higher than residents of that state.
Nevada State College System Grants and Scholarships
As a state-funded college system, the NSC schools are responsible for administering a handful of state college assistance programs.
The Nevada State Access Grant and the Nevada Grant-In-Aid both offer Nevada residents tuition grants when they can prove a dire financial need.
The Out-of-State Grant-In-Aid program is similar to the above, except that it is formulated for non-residents wishing to study within the state.
Regents Award Program offers disadvantaged students the opportunity to secure work in community service jobs while still attending school. Requirements include one or more of the following: single parent; 22 or older; financially disadvantaged; lack of social, cultural or familial support; history of educational displacement.
Individual NSC Scholarships are available to all in-state residents who are able to prove financial need as well as academic merit.

Specialized Scholarships and Grants
Like many other states, Nevada has made vigorous inroads in trying to shore up flagging healthcare systems. Many western states have large rural regions typically considered medically underserved. Nevada's Professional Student Exchange Program is designed with graduate students in mind. Veterinary Science, Pharmacy or Optometry students studying outside Nevada are guaranteed 75% tuition coverage in exchange for a pre-determined number of years in a professional capacity within a Nevada healthcare facility upon graduation.
Nevada's Health Care Access Program takes steps to address the alarming shortage of healthcare professionals within the state's medically underserved territories or facilities. Grants are available for nursing students, physician assistants and physical therapists. Loan repayment programs are available for working nurses, dentists and mental health professionals. Applicants for both must agree to work for no less than 2 years in a NV healthcare facility. Also see our page on general nursing scholarships and other medical related scholarships.
