Engineering students who want to look beyond scholarships offered by their college or university can compete for a number of national scholarships to help finance their education. While these awards are often highly competitive, winning just one scholarship can make the application process well worth your time.
Barry Goldwater Scholarship
Each year, 300 students from across the United States receive scholarships valued at $7,500 from the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. The awards are part of an effort to increase the amount of highly qualified scientists, engineers, and mathematicians by awarding scholarships to outstanding college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields.
To be eligible for a Barry Goldwater Scholarship, a student must be entering his/her junior or senior year and majoring in engineering or another approved course of study. Students may not apply for this award directly; they must request a nomination by the designated faculty representative at their college or university.

Hispanic College Fund
To encourage promising students to begin engineering-related careers, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers awards of up to $2,500 to Hispanic high school graduates, community college transfer students, students at four year colleges or universities, and students enrolled in graduate programs who demonstrate a record of academic excellence and the potential for professional success.
To apply for engineering scholarships offered by the Hispanic College Fund, students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and be attending school on a full time basis. Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association Scholarships
Korean-American engineering students can apply for one of eight $1,000 scholarships offered by the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant's record of academic success and professional potential as demonstrated by an essay, letters of recommendation, and resume detailing work experience and extracurricular activities.
Both undergraduate and graduate students may compete for scholarships offered by the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association, although all students must either have a parent who is a member of the organization or apply for their own membership at the time of the scholarship application submission. Association for Women in Science Scholarships
Female high school seniors who plan to study engineering, science, or mathematics at an accredited college or university in the United States may apply for scholarships from the Association for Women in Science. All applicants must plan to pursue a career in either research or teaching. Several scholarships will be awarded, with amounts ranging from $100 to $1,000.

American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers Scholarship Program
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers offers a number of scholarships for students who wish to pursue careers in heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R). Scholarships awards are between $3,000 and $10,000. Some scholarships offer an award renewal option if the recipient shows satisfactory academic progress.
To be eligible for an ASHRE Scholarship, students must be enrolled full-time in a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology or one that is equivalent in a country outside the United States. In addition, all applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Awards are based on academic achievement, financial need, leadership, potential for professional success, and the applicant's answers to a series of short essay questions. Official transcripts and letters of recommendation must be submitted with the completed scholarship application.

American Radio Relay League Foundation Scholarships
The American Radio Relay League Foundation offers a number of college scholarships to students who plan to study engineering and hold a valid ham radio license. Scholarships are given in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. The awards can be used for tuition, room, board, books, and other related educational expenses. Most awards are given to students pursuing degrees at a four-year college or university, but some scholarships do allow community college applicants.
Scholarships awarded by the American Radio Relay League Foundation are based on financial need, academic achievement, ham radio activities, and potential for success in the applicant's area of study. A copy of your official transcript is required and a short essay must be submitted with your completed application. However, letters of recommendation are optional.

Scholarships Offered by the American Society of Naval Engineers
The American Society of Naval Engineers offers scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students interested in engineering careers. The scholarships are worth $2,500 for undergraduates and $3,500 for graduate students. Only United States citizens are eligible to apply for ASNE scholarships.
Scholarships offered by the American Society of Naval Engineers are awarded based on the applicant's academic record, extracurricular activities, work history, letters of recommendation, and demonstrated interest in naval engineering. Financial need may also be considered. All graduate student applicants must be members of ASNE and all undergraduate applicants must be entering their final year of study.

Astronaut Scholarship Foundation
Engineering students at selected colleges and universities from across the United States may receive a $10,000 scholarship from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation if they exhibit creativity and the potential to make a meaningful contribution to the fields of science and technology.
This engineering scholarship is unique in that students may not apply directly for the scholarship. All applicants must be nominated by a faculty member at their college or university.
